Jonah Pt. 11 What's Missing in Jonah's Prayer?
On this third day in Jonah Chapter 2, we take a closer look at Jonah’s prayer from inside the fish. At first glance, it sounds like a cry for help—but something crucial is missing. Where is the true repentance? The humility? The acknowledgment of his own rebellion against God?
Jonah’s prayer reveals a startling truth: It’s possible to cry out to God in distress while still clinging to pride. His words focus on his deliverance, his vows, his declaration—but where is the brokenness over his sin?
This passage challenges us to examine our own prayers:
- Do we seek God primarily for rescue, or for transformation?
- Are we quick to assume God’s mercy while slow to confront our own disobedience?
- How might we, like Jonah, overlook the heart of true repentance?
📖 Key Scripture: Jonah 2 (ESV)
